                     MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY 2010

Volunteering at the San Diego Food Bank on October 23rd, was an interesting and rewarding experience.  The warehouse is HUGE with many sections filled with ceiling high stacks of canned and packaged food.  There were several groups there at the same time-one group had about 25 volunteers and others our size (we had 7).  Each group worked in a different area doing their assigned task.  Our first job was to fill bags with several canned goods and a flour sack in each bag. We went through many cases of these items. After we completed this, many huge containers later, we were shifted to another room to organize donated canned food and dry goods as to content into separate boxes such as vegetables, fruit, paper goods, cereals etc. It was fun and we did make a difference. The photos below show four Altrusans Jean Somers, Jacque Montague, Dawn Gallagher, and Marie McHenry along with her son Ray McHenry, his wife Betsy and their son Steven (a high school senior).

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY 2009

On November 13th, Altrusan's gathered at Linda Kennedy's home to prepare the gift bags for new mothers at Balboa Hospital. All of the expectant Mom's spouses are currently deployed. Twenty-three beautiful gift bags, of different shapes and colors were prepared; each tied with a ribbon. Each gift bag also contained a new baby blanket for the newborn and various necessities for the new mom. Arrangements were made to deliver the bags to Balboa Hospital on Friday, November 20th. Gift bags were transferred to their carts and the Altrusan's were escorted to the baby ward. Luck was still smiling on us, because that morning there was an eligible recipient for us to personally give the first bag to. She was surprised, pleased and even shed some tears. Her newborn son was also brought into the room for the Altrusan's to meet. The Altrusan's departed, with smiles and warm feelings of another successful Altrusa, Make a Difference Day project completed.

             MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY 2008

On December 5, 2008 Barbara Charett, Georgi Galas, Jean Somers and Nansea Wolff delivered a basket of DVD's, a bunch of Altrusa balloons, cookies and candy canes. These were donated by The Altrusa Club members of San Diego, to support the patients at the Naval Medical Center.  When we left we felt that our club had indeed made a difference and are already planning another special event for these deserving men and women who so faithfully have served our country.
